Fandom Snowflake - Day Eight 2018

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner 2018

Day 8

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

Favorite bit of canon, eh? Well, I was going to go with Escape to Witch Mountain, but then I realized that I haven't read much in the way of fic from this my favorite childhood book/film.

So instead, I'm going with Labyrinth.

Yes. That Labyrinth.

I love this film of a girl growing up and winning against the odds. I love the music. (I love David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly) And I love Ludo.

And now I can read fanfic about them. Yay!

LABYRINTH!!! This is one of those movies that I always want to watch, but never get around to. I guess I have to change that. :)

Such a wonderful film. I've watched it at least ten times now.

Labyrinth has a very special place in my heart. I was 16 when the movie came out, and I saw it in the theater. And I fell in love.

I mean, I'd already had a crush of David Bowie; that was a given. But I fell in love with Jennifer Connelly and it would be years and years (okay, just maybe until I went to college) before I realized there was a name for this, for falling in love with both David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

Labyrinth made me realize I was queer, and I'll forever be grateful for that.

And I've had thing about striped babies ever since I first saw this movie. I've enjoyed sharing it with classes over the years too - it's great for narrative units.

Oh, my! We even chose to share the same scene. That's cool.

Awww, I remember a holiday in Italy when I had the soundtrack in my walkman and played it constantly while sunbathing.

Nice coincidence, my "day eight" is about David Bowie, too.

LABYRINTH!!!! I grew up with this film, and all my high school friends WRONGLY dismissed it. I am happy that as an adult, I have found so many who also appreciate this movie. It's so perfect.
