So, I had difficulty eating my lunch today, because it suddenly occured to me that it didn't really look like food.
The bread looked like bread, sliced though it was.
But the orange cheese square...though actual cheddar, does not really strike the eye as real.
And the slices of turkey were...oblong. Not really what the mind associates with actual meat.
I won't even mention the unnatural shape of Pringles.
Once you add Baby Carrots to the mix...they sorta look like orange pellets.

*sigh*
I think I need to go to the store and get some fruit shaped fruit.
I shudder to think of the theoretical SciFi future where food is a series of pills.

Oh my. That is quite alarming.
Hm... I advise a roll and a small green salad. And a cupcake.

Maybe if you have fruit shaped gummi snacks they would cancel each other out?

I love how companies design their "food" to look like what people "think" food should look like. I mean, what part of the chicken is the mcnugget from? What ever part it is it comes in the exact same 4 shapes regardless of the chicken. Which reminds me...

Food photography makes me ill. When I was taking photo classes in design school we learned how to create the kind of photos that make food look "appealing". Doing things like painting the turkey with burnt sienna acrylic mixed with gloss medium to give it the proper "oven" roasted texture and shine. Or using flat coke in coffee cups because it actually photographs better than coffee. Think of the disgust that somone working in porn must have because they see behind the camera and under the make up, but apply that stomach churning to food.

Thanksgiving food pictures in magazines...(shudder)...
