Day 3

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

Okay....Three random things.

1) Lin-Manuel Miranda (and his family) make a fan video for Sound of Music

2) Opalsong's amazing podfic of Shadows in Starlight (a Rurouni Kenshin/Star Wars (original trilogy) cross over that will get into your headcanon)

3) QueenWithABeeThrone's Wonder Woman series featuring Winter Soldier!Steve Trevor - i wish we had more time

Day 2

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay. I've got this one.

So, back in the early 90s there was Psuvm.psu.edu, and this is the place where the fandom listservs lived. One of these listservs was duesouth-l. This listserv sent out everything from fanfiction to organizing the routing of vhs tapes around North America. It also contained the people that organized RCW139 in 1996. RCW139 was a Due South fan convention that took place in Toronto. This was my first convention, and I flew to another country to attend.

(Somewhere I have photographs from that trip that include me sitting on the Riv, posing in front of the coroner's office sign (because I was also a Forever Knight fan), and pictures from the party we threw at the Royal Ontario Museum.)

We went to Stratford and saw King Lear. We went to the Zoo they filmed an episode at. And best of all? We got a sneak preview of the soundtrack. Why was that the best? Well, I'll tell you.

No shit there we were in the Royal Ontario Museum special event room. Rows upon rows of people. All of whom were intently listening. In the back of the room, the catering staff went quietly about their business until, we got to the song "Ride Forever." When the song reached the chorus, suddenly all the attendees burst into song.

The catering staff were not expecting this (possibly because we were not Mounties. Who can say?) And they jumped, startled. I don't remember anything falling, but the look they gave us was pure incredulity.

It was hilarious.

This convention is also why I know the words to O Canada, but that is a story for another time.

Day 1

In your own space, talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I think this might be the third time I've participated in the snowflake challenge. I...have a terrible track record so far. This time around I'm attempting to do this challenge to support [profile] analise10 who is one of the mods. Actually, I think that's why I've tried to do the challenge before. She reminds me that the challenge exists, and then I manage a couple of challenges...and then generally I get anxious about something and stop.

This time around I'm going to try and have fun with it instead of needing my responses to be perfect. It's a good way to get a head start on my goal for the year (I'm trying not to take myself too seriously. It's a work in progress.)

This is an adventure. Let's see where it goes. Thanks for doing this y'all!

The holidays might be behind us, but that doesn't mean that we can't get some neat prezzies. *g*

Could it be that you've always wanted to have icons for a favourite character or ship? Maybe a cool header or fabulous style for your journal/Twitter/Tumblr? Perhaps you're looking for recs on a favourite trope/bulletproof kink/favourite character and/or ship?

Let's have fun today and talk a little about our fannish wishes, yeah?

Day 10

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1) Anything awesome related to Kili/Tauriel. (Art? Fic? Podfic? Icons? etc…) I have a tiny new obsession. (You can find some prompts here if you want to make something…)

2) Cover art for a podfic of Welcome to Halloween Town (as there is a podfic of this in the works)

3) Podfic, as enumerated in my Dear Podficcer Letter

Day 2

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1) The Kili/Tauriel Fest! It's new, but the few of us who haunt the place are having fun coming up with prompts and celebrating this pairing from The Hobbit fandom.

2) Amplificathon on DW or on LJ is a community to post your podfic on. This is the community that helped me connect with the podfic community. There are fests during the year, and a whole lot of podfic gets posted on those sites.

3) #ITPE - The Informal Twitter Podfic Exchange (@ITPE_Mod) is a podfic exchange that takes place in the last couple of months of the year, with reveals at Christmas. I've done it two years in a row and this year it really got be back to podficcing. The Mods are amazing, and do *so much* work to make it work. I can't wait for next year to do it again.

Day 9

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) but you ended up loving. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don't push my boundaries very often, but…

1) [Podfic of] When Fics Take on a Life of Their Own ([0:28:32] A fanfic writer and Feminist Ryan Gosling discuss celebrity culture, gender and theory, and the political perils of Fassavoy fic. (Dual-voice podfic by Cath and Klb) ) - So…I heard about this story in the Resonance podfic podcast. I don't generally listen to podfics that I haven't read the story for, and especially not ones for fandoms I don't romp about in. …But this one sounded interesting, so I gave it a try…and I really enjoyed it! If you like well-voiced fandom meta at all, give this podfic featuring Feminist Ryan Gosling a try.

2) Letters, the Writing Of by earlgreytea68 - Okay. I think that everyone knows that I love earlgreytea68's fic. Like, a lot. But I am not that big a fan of angst generally and I knew that this one would be painful. I tried it anyway…and I loved it so much that I ended up podficcing it. It's a Sherlock BBC fic with this summary: "While he's dead, Sherlock writes John letters." Yeah. It's ouchy, but so very good.

3) This cover of Far over the misty mountains cold by str8voices. You know what? I'm really picky about cover versions of songs. In fact, the first time I heard this I wasn't sure I liked it. But then? I listened again…and now I love it. So there.

Yeah. I'm totally doing this out of order. I guess that's just how I roll?

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay. I'm going to go ahead and recommend:

1) My podfic of A Brief History of Liars by jibrailis. It's a story that takes place in Garth Nix's Old Kingdom. This podfic is only about 15 minutes long, but something about it really sticks with me. Also? I sing a tiny bit in it. (Rated teen)

2) My podfic of Four Ways Marcella Could Have Ended Up Working For Martin and One Way She Did by linaerys. It's also about 15 minutes long, but this one is in the Grosse Pointe Blank fandom. I adore Marcella. It was so fun to look at the ways she might have met Martin. (This one is Gen)

3) I used to write a bit? And this is something I wrote that still amuses me: Swimming. It's a little bit of 10/Rose fluff from the Doctor Who fandom.

So…there you go.Three things that I made. :)
