I'm a Hedonist...

Ok, first I have to say Happy Birthday
hauntedaislinn!!!
Now...I must tell y'all that I just had the best meal of my life...and I've had a few good meals. (Heck, I used to live with Kel, but anyway)
I am officially out of superlatives.
And the best part? It was free!
Yep. You heard me. Free.
You may recall that I posted last evening about our dining snafu and the subsequent nummyness at the resident steak house?
Well, we went back to the Napa Rose tonight, and Mr. Waters stopped by our table to say that he was glad to see us, and that we were to take our time and enjoy ourselves as it was all taken care of.
Actually, everyone there seemed to know about yesterday (a bit embarrassing really). The lady who seated us wanted to know how we liked Granville's.
No fewer than five people greeted us on the way to our table by the window.
Our server, Mickey, was very knowledgeable and helpful.
We ended up sharing an Oak Roasted Stuffed Quail starter.
Some of you may know that I hate mushrooms. Well..not tonight I didn't
The sauce alone was so good that I kept expecting to see Iron Chef French, Sakai-san himself, wave from the kitchen.
(there were a bunch of people about speaking Japanese, so maybe that helped)
My Evian and the Mon Coeur 2001 Pinot Noir both paired quite well with this course.
Next came the Lobster, coconut, and spring veggie soup. Luckily, I was able to get a tiny portion, as I hoped to make it through the entire meal.
Another pause followed this course, and then Mickey re-appeared with lemon sorbet to cleanse our palates before the main course.
Chris' Alaskan Halibut and Acorn squash cake were sublime. (yes, he willingly ate squash. I even tried some of his fish. these folks know food!)
My Duck schnitzel on a bed of butternut squash and pecans? I believe my exact words were - "I can die now. Oh, wait! I can die after dessert."
Ah dessert. Chris ordered the flourless Scharffen Berger dark chocolate cake.
After some discussion with Mickey, I ended up ordering the chocolate moose and Bailey's Espresso Pot de Creme. (hard to describe, really).
I went to use the rest room, and when I returned I found that my coffee had arrived...as well as a dessert wine that I had not ordered.
Chris explained that Mickey had brought it, and that I was supposed to try it.
All I can say is that it was Italian, red, slightly fizzy, and I could have drank a whole bottle of the stuff.
The meal finally ended and I officially achieved sensory overload. (I can smell *everything*.)
And then we left. Without having to pay a cent. And 5 people wished us good night. *whew*
Napa Rose. Great food, fancy bathrooms, and excellent service. Best restaurant ever. I give them 5 stars out of 4.
